Economic Report: U.S. Credit Scores Hit Hard By Recession- 07/14/10

Economic Report:

Credit ratings have taken a huge hit in this faltering economy. According to FICO 25.5 percent of consumers now have a credit score below 600. That credit score is a blackmark for individuals hoping to secure a mortgage, new car, or even get a credit card. Low credit could also impact the unemployed who are seeking work, as many employers require credit checks when considering new employees.

AFL-CIO Launches Work Site Jobs Campaign In 23 States- 07/14/10

The AFL-CIO is running a campaign this month at workplaces throughout the country calling for good jobs and political candidates who support them. The first wave of the grassroots campaign involves distribution of over 300,000 flyers at 164 work sites in 23 states. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says the campaign will underscore for politicnas that if they fight for working families the AFL-CIO will work hard for them. But Trumka says if the take workers for granted, many politicians will be awfully lonely come November.

ILWU California Port Strikers Are Back At The Bargaining Table In Fight To Save American Jobs- 07/14/10

Nine hundred ILWU clerical workers returned to work Tuesday at the ports of Los Angeles-Long Beach after a 12 day strike. Contract talks will resume today. ILWU Local 63 Office Clerical unit President John Fageaux says this is a fight for American jobs and job security.

[Fageaux]: “We in a fight to save our jobs, to keep these jobs in America where they belong where they’ve been for the last fifty years. And we’re not gonna sit back and watch these jobs get shipped off to overseas, where they can pay people pennies on the dollar to perform this work. It’s not right.”
