Workers in Gulf Not Getting Proper Clean-Up Training
Last week the Institute of Medicine held a workshop in New Orleans to assess the health impact on humans working in the gulf on clean-up resulting from BP’s oil spill. Dr. Myra Lewis is Assitant Director of Dillard University’s Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, which is involved with communicating risk to the public in the Mississippi Chemical Corrider. Her organization has been doing worker training in the Gulf for the last 15 years. part of the training is hazardous waste training and she is concerned about reports that workers are going out into the field without respirators.

Millions of workers will suffer nationwide because Senate
Republicans filibustered the jobs bill. The AFL-CIO says
for the fourt time Republicans have blocked an extension of
unemployment benefits to the most desperate unemployed
workers, cutting a vital lifeline for them. The jobs bill also
