Labor Movement, Governors Press For Congress To Pass Jobs Bill That Would Save Nearly A Million Jobs- 07/01/10

Ten governors and the AFL-CIO pressed Wednesday for Congress to pass the jobs bill, despite Republican efforts to block it. In Boston, AFSCME members rallied to support the bill as the AFL-CIO rallied outside the offices of seventeen Republican senators who helped block the jobs bill last week. AFSCME Public Affairs Director Chris Policano.
[Policano]: “It’s going to keep both private sector and public sector jobs, it’ll protect public services and we’re talking about nearly a million more Americans losing their jobs if this bill does not get passed.”

Transport Workers Union At American Airlines Toss Out Tentative Contract – 06/30/10
American Airlines is facing a new round of turbulence as the union representing ground workers has decided to throw out a tentative agreement. The agreement was reached at the end of May and while specific details as to why the contract was thrown out have not been given, the Transport Workers Union said in their statement that they mostly revolve around “unresolved issues” that are “related to contracting out work.” The union is seeking an impasse from the National Labor Relations Board.
Honeywell International Locks Out Workers At Illinois Nuclear Fuel Plant – 06/30/10
