January 9th, 2009 No comments

pTwo measures passed by the House of Representatives last week could make it easier for U.S. workers in fights regarding pay discrimination. Combined the measures lift a cap on damages filed in a pay discrimination suit, restrict employers from how they can defend their decision, and extends the length of time an underpaid employee has to file a complaint. Statistics show that women make 78 cents for every dollar made by a male in the same position./p

Organized Labor Calls on Congress to Act For Economic Recovery – 01/12/09

January 9th, 2009 No comments

pLede: With the recession deepening amidst continuing massive jobs loss, labor is calling on Congress for urgent economic recovery action. Doug Cunningham reports./p
pBy Doug Cunningham/p
pThe AFL-CIO says if Congress doesn’t act urgently we’ll be facing a “category 5” economic crisis. AFSCME says America lost more jobs in the last year of George Bush’s disastrous presidency than in any year since 1945. Two and a half million jobs were lost in 2008. With more than 11 million Americans out of work and millions more at risk of losing their jobs, AFSCME say Congress needs to jump-start the economy right now./p
