Labor Cruisin’

August 9th, 2008 No comments

If you’re in Detroit this Wednesday and are looking for a little relaxation, a cold beverage and a bit of Motor City labor history, you’re in luck. The Michigan State AFL-CIO is sponsoring a cruise along the Detroit River front, part of the eight-day celebration of Detroit’s automotive heritage, “Cruisin’ MotorCities.”

The cruise, aboard the Detroit Princess paddle wheeler, will feature a discussion on UAW history and will take you past sites where the Ford Rouge Factory, the Olds Motor Works—the city’s first factory specifically designed to build automobiles—stood. It also highlights the General Motors headquarters at the Renaissance Center, the Michigan Labor Legacy Monument at Hart Plaza and the Horace E. Dodge and Son Memorial Fountain honoring the Motor City auto pioneers.
