The strike by movie and TV writers may be over after a tentative deal was reached with producers. In a letter posted on both unions’ websites today, Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) President Michael Winship and Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) President Patric Verrone said the deal:

Last fall, the sky over much of Southern California was thick with the dark smoke from some of the biggest and worst wildfires in memory. Flying through those murky skies and dangerous winds were the pilots of Machinists (IAM) Local 946, carrying tons of fire retardant in a desperate attempt to slow the blazes.
One of those pilots is Joe “Hoser” Satrapa, who tells the February issue of Popular Mechanics magazine:
No two drops are the same. You’re close to the ground; you’re looking out for trees and poles. You’ve got wind shears and crosswinds and convection columns that can flip you right on your back, and smoke and pieces of ember the size of grapefruits. You’ve gotta plan your escape route every time.
