Why on earth should any government official "support" a strike? It's none of their business. A strike such as this one is between the writers and the owners/producers/etc. of television and movies. It should be resolved between them. If writers are that important, and irreplacable, then they will eventually get what they want. If it turns out that they are not worth the extra consideration, they won't.

People who ask for government "support" should remember that such support can go either way. The only thing the government should be doing is making sure there is no physical violence involved in the negotiation process, in their duties as law enforcement agents.

If you ask for anything else, you are giving Uncle Sam too much power over what should be a contractual dispute between two parties.
