Congress Fights Bush Veto To Provide Low-Income Kids With Health Insurance - 10/18/07

The House is expected to vote today on an override of Bush’s veto of a children’s heath program. Jesse Russell reports:
Congress is looking for a $35 billion expansion of the State’s Children Health Insurance Program. State’s depend on SCHIP’s to help lift families who make too much for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private coverage. For example, in Illinois, the program is used to help fund the state’s All Kids Health Insurance Program. With SCHIP a family of four earning only $61,950 would qualify. In Virginia a veto of SCHIP could have an impact on that states program covering 80,000 kids. According to Jim Leaman with the Virginia AFL-CIO the program has strong bi-partisan support from businesses and doctors because it helps children:
