By Doug Cunningham
A San Francisco federal judge has indefinitely blocked a new rule being imposed by the Department of Homeland Security against workers and employers designed to crack down on illegal immigration. The rule would have required employers to fire workers with non-matching social security numbers within 90 days of getting a “no-match” letter from the government.
The judge agreed with the AFL-CIO in a lawsuit that the rule could lead to the firings of many thousands of legally authorized workers. The AFL-CIO had joined with the United States Chamber of Commerce and the ACLU i na suit to block the rule.
